Just as Young Earth Creationism has a fatal flaw, science does as well—God. About forty years ago, the Discovery Institute coined the phrase “Intelligent Design.” Their theory was that life and the universe cannot have arisen by chance. It must have been designed by an intelligent entity.
The evidence for Intelligent Design is airtight, and everyone on the planet knows it. I say this because all people innately know the difference between something that is designed and something random.
As evidence, I offer the following proof. When I was young, there was a game called 52-card pick up. It worked like this. You would approach a person and ask if they wanted to play 52-card pick up. If they said yes, you would shuffle or throw a deck of cards into the air and then tell them they had to pick upall the cards. It was an amusing game to play with younger children when their parents were not around.
Imagine if we were to play 52-card pick-up, and I were to move a single card, say the King of Hearts, and place it next to the King of Spades while you were not looking. You would easily be able to recognize which card I moved. That is because our brains are programmed to recognize patterns, and patterns are evidence of design. Shuffling a deck of cards into the air will never produce a pattern, not in a hundred tries, not in a million tries, and not in a trillion tries.
Yet every living thing, and every part of every living thing, down to the individual molecules of every cell on the planet, is arranged in patterns. More than this, every molecule in every cell works with other molecules, forming complex machines that do incredibly complicated tasks.
If that were not enough, there is nothing random in any living thing. In the 52-card scenario, only one card was moved. Imagine if the cards were arranged according to their suit, from lowest to highest, and back in their original box. This is the type of complexity we find in all living things.
But science denies that living things, as well as the universe, were designed. They say there is the appearance of design. Like our young Earth friends, this is not only a weak argument but fundamentally flawed, because 100% of the evidence points to design. This is why, along with the politicization of science during the COVID pandemic, so many people are skeptical of science.
Intelligent Design is not a hypothesis. It is not a theory. It is a Law of the universe. It has the same amount of evidence behind it as the First and Second Laws of Thermodynamics. Acknowledging this will free science from the shackles of ideological bias that have bound it for too long.
The key to progressing science is robust debate. Scientific theories should be destroyed by evidence, not dismissed by ideology. Currently, Creationists are censored and/or dismissed not because of their research, but because they dare to question the status quo. Until this changes, science will be fundamentally flawed.
