Biblical (Evolution)

So what is biblical evolution? The first word is “biblical,” and that will be the foundation for everything in the book. I believe the Bible is the Word of God, and therefore cannot contradict itself. I will do my best to hold to that standard.

I also believe that the most accurate way to read the Bible is literally. God wrote the Bible for the common man, and although Jesus spoke in parables which were difficult to understand, the plain meaning is the most accurate.

That said, there can also be multiple correct meanings of a word or passage. The word “day” can mean 24 hours or a long period of time. Baptism can mean sprinkling or immersion. Discerning which is correct is not an easy task. Upon occasion, the answer may not be either/or, but both/and. That is what we will explore.

If you have strong opinions on the topic of origins, I ask you to try to keep an open mind. Tradition has a way of clouding our vision, but upon occasion, tradition is based not upon Scripture, but on how those before us understood it. It is good to reexamine our beliefs upon occasion to ensure their source is God, not man.

Finally, understand that I am not God. I do not speak for him and am not saying “Thus says the Lord.” It is with fear and trepidation that I write this book, as one day I will have to answer for it. In the first chapter, I did not write flippantly that God was a deceiver. I realize that if I am wrong, that statement would be heresy. But I am writing this book in good conscience, and pray that it will be used for His glory.
