(Biblical) Evolution

Certain words are anathema to some people. If you are reading an article and see the word G-d or L-d, you can be sure it was written by a Jew. The name of God is so sacred to them that many will never say the word or even write it.

I remember 50 years ago my grandma telling me about a nigger baby she saw in church. I was shocked and told her she was not supposed to say that word. She had no idea why not. She meant no harm. This was the first dark-skinned baby she had ever seen. She thought it was cute and was simply conveying that message.

Most readers are probably shocked that I even wrote that word out. That is the N-word. White people are not allowed to say it, let alone write it.

Such is evolution. It is a conservative Christian curse word. Evolution is the enemy. It is Creation vs. Evolution, or the Bible vs. Evolution. This is good vs. evil, right vs. wrong. Evolution is always the enemy. It can never be seen in a positive light. It makes no difference that…

Evolution is true.

Wait! Wait! Wait! Now you’ve gone too far. This is heresy. Evolution is a lie, and every real Christian knows it. What you don’t understand is the difference between microevolution and macro…… blah, blah, blah.

I don’t want to hear it. I couldn’t care less about micro evolution and macro evolution. Evolution is true, and I can prove it, because…

Evolution is in the Bible.

Now you’ve done it! I am throwing this book away! Better yet, I am going to burn it. Does anyone have a pitchfork? We have to find this guy and throw him out of the church. Burn him at the stake! He must be silenced!

Hold your horses. It’s not the end of the world. It is just a simple word, and it’s not that bad. Set your pitchfork down for a minute and listen.

Let’s start with a definition of evolution. We can’t argue about a word unless we know what it means. These are the definitions the Merriam-Webster dictionary gives for biological evolution:

1. Descent with modification from preexisting species : cumulative inherited change in a population of organisms through time leading to the appearance of new forms.

2. The process by which new species or populations of living things develop from preexisting forms through successive generations.

3. The scientific theory explaining the appearance of new species and varieties through the action of various biological mechanisms (such as natural selection, genetic mutation or drift, and hybridization).

That wasn’t so bad, was it? Evolution is simply the process by which new species develop. It is the idea that the domestic dog at your feet evolved from a pair of gray wolves, or that the ancestors of the cat on your lap were a pair of African wildcats. There are 141 species of sparrows in the world. Evolution says they all descended from a single pair of sparrows in the distant past.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist or a seminary degree to see that evolution had something to do with the flood. Without it, there would be over 60,000 different species of animals that would have had to fit on the ark. With two of every species, and seven of some, there would be less than one square foot per animal.

Since this could not happen, it is obvious that the pairs of animals on the ark evolved into thousands of species over the centuries. The Bible refers to these original pairs as “kinds” of animals. These “kinds” were probably roughly equivalent to the genus or family classification in taxonomy. Noah did not have to take 41 different species of cats; one or two would suffice. A single pair of canines was all that would be needed to repopulate the earth with 36 different species. The same is true of all the other families of animals.

This is biblical evolution. It is biblically accurate and scientifically true. All scientific evidence supports it. The Christian community needs to embrace the word evolution. We need to take it back from the Darwinists. If we do not, we will continue to look like fools, appearing to argue against something we know to be true.
